Longhorn

This Painting was actually  inspired by a wall decor set I seen at a store several years ago. It was a much larger 3 panel set that was probably about 4'x6' in size. It looked really good as I was immediately drawn to it. It was a large monochromatic photo of a longhorn. I was very tempted to purchase it, but It was several thousand dollars! I am sure it found a home with a more well off family, but I myself could not afford such a pricey mass produced thing. 

I figured why not just paint a longhorn? I have paint and I have canvases! So that is what I did. Normally I paint with craft paint because that is what I started my painting journey with since it is cheaper. However I had the higher quality acrylic paint that comes in a tube and decided to use that since it has a thicker viscosity and dries with a texture. I wanted to go this route to better capture the fur as I layered in white and gold to show light reflecting off of his healthy dark obsidian fur. His horns are very textured and realistic with shimmering bronze and silver His face is stoic and serious. He almost melts in to the deep black background with only the highlights of his fur and the cobalt blue glow separating him from the darkness.
